Ramadan is a holy month. It is permissible in Islam. It has a few rules to follow due to its dignity. Don’t drink, smoke, use caffeine, lying, but you can take a shower to rehydrate your body.

Rules to spend Ramadan

Take certain rules to spend Ramadan. Every Muslim must follow them. They can’t drink, eat, self-vomit, or have sexual relations during fasting.

All these actions are haram and invalid. A few things can be performed, for example, having a shower during Ramadan fasting. During fasting body becomes dehydrated, and if one feels thirsty, he can take a bath.

Some tips for fasting people to get

  • Stay in a cool, airy place, mostly with air conditioners.
  • Drink a large number of liquids even if not thirsty.
  • Avoid doing any outdoor activities.
  • Wear flexible and light clothes with bright colors to reflect sun rays.
  • Take more than one shower during burning days to cool your body.
  • Do not go your kids or pets inside the cars.

Bathing

As bathing is concerned same as Ghusul, whether it is done for a religious purpose. If you are in a state of ‘janabbat, you should take ghusul.

Like sexual relations or whether it is done to clean your body to remove dirt. If you are feeling sticky or bathing is done. If you are feeling thirsty or dehydrated, for whatever reason, it is done for as long as the person does not drink up water. The fast does not get invalidated.

Showering

Showering is acceptable while fasting, and several hadiths show it is allowed. It is referred to in ShiheeAl-Bukhari that “Aisha (may Allah be please with her) says that Prophet brought up from his sleep in a state of ‘junub.

He was fasting and took a bath, and continued his fast.” That means showering can be done during Ramadan, as He(PBUP) had interacted with his wife about it.

Further, if you read in Sunan Abu-Dawood, “Hazrat Abu Bakar (may Allah be pleased with him) says he listened a man saying that when the Prophet had gone to Al-Araje while he was fasting, he flowed water over his head. He was feeling drifty or feeling hot”. When you are feeling to have a bath, you are allowed to have it.

It is allowable to shower while fasting, which does not affect the fast. It is noted in Sahih Bukhari that” Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) washed his cloth in water and wore it.” In the same way, it says, “Anas(may Allah be pleased with him) had a tub of water in which he used to sit while he was fasting.

Ibn Qudamah said, “There is nothing wrong with a fasting person taking a bath. He quoted the report narrated by al-Bukhari (1926) and Muslim (1109) as proof. ‘Aisha and Umm Salaama said that Fajr would come and the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) would be in a state of impurity following intimate relationships with his wife, and He would do ghusl and fast.

It implies that it is allowable for the fasting person to seek relief from the heat. He can pour water over part or all of his body. It is the majority’s view, and they did not distinguish between the required ghusl.

Al-Bukhari said:

Ibn’ Umar moistened a piece of cloth and threw it over himself when he was fasting.

Al-Hasan said: There is nothing wrong with the fasting person washing out his mouth and cooling himself off.”

Al-Hafiz said:

The fact that he named his chapter “Chapter on fasting person bathing” shows that it is proper. And Allah knows best.

Why water is avoided during fasting

The month is about limitations that bring you closer to the almighty and guide you to living a peaceful life. Avoiding water during the sunlight hours is considered an act of ‘Sabr.’

Many fitness trainers who attend fast say, “According to our religion, avoiding water is a sign of patience that is linked to remembering Allah.” He further says fast never preaches to escape food, bathing, and water at the cost of your health.

Showering in Ramadan from a Medical point

Showering in Ramadan from a Medical point of view is much important

Cold showers:

Cold showers support you in many ways to rehydrate you during Ramadan. After a couple of days of fasting, thirst becomes a regular feeling.

It would be best if you tried to notice other signs of dehydration: cracked lips, flushed skin, fatigue, increased body temperature, and increased breathing and pulse rate. All these signs are followed by dizziness, increased weakness, and labored breathing.

If you feel one or more of these signs, you should try to lower your body temperature in any way possible. Consume for 5-10 minutes with the bottom of your head under direct cool water. (No ice water, please let’s try to keep you from cold, shall we?)

Taking a cold shower in a local bathroom can be considered bad. Soak a small towel in ice water if you are in an office. Please put it on your forehead, the area around your ears, the base of your neck, the upper back, and the chest.
