According to Feng Shui, the placement of mirrors in your home at different positions can have negative and positive effects in your home. Mirrors are used for many Feng Shui applications. This practice of adding a mirror is to improve or shift the space which is called method minor additions.

One of the applications of minor addition is to use your intention with adding an object to overcome the hurdles. It is suggested that whenever you use a mirror in your house do it with clear intention. Mirrors personify the element of water and water embody introspection and wisdom.

Whether you have ever practised Feng Shui mirror application or not there is no denying the advantages of a good room layout. Every designer doesn’t practice these ancient arts of China but at least abide by its principle.

Feng Shui supports the clutter-free layout of your home and with mirrors, it is believed that they reflect things from the exterior side or interior. Mirrors can invite the different types of energy in your home from a door or a window. Some techniques have been suggested where to place mirrors while considering the Feng Shui practice.

Facing Door

If speaking about the placement of a mirror in the facing door, then in the general case the Feng Shui experts don’t support the placing of a mirror directly in the facing door or the front door but you can place it on a wall perpendicular to the front door. The mirror placed at the front door seems to push away the energy. The front door holds a significant role in Feng Shui. The author of Holistic Home Laura Benko tells that when you hang a mirror hang it in a way that shows how you connect to an intention. It is just like expanding the opportunities of life.

To place a mirror in Feng Shui will help to have a look at the circumstances. Some believe that placing the mirror in the facing door is different as explained earlier. There are conflicts in the viewpoints of various Feng Shui because at the different schools of Feng Shui practitioners welcomed the learners to more varied approaches.

In some other schools, the mirrors expand the space energetically. Then can help expand the small cramped entry in such a way that feels much larger and if the mirror is well placed at the facing door it can be welcoming elemental energies with a source with nature reflecting in them. According to this perspective, the mirror calls the positive energy rather than pushing it away.

In Bedroom

Let’s know what meaning is assigned to the placement of mirrors in the bedroom according to Feng Shui. According to Feng Shui, the placing of the mirror in the bedroom can cause trouble while you are sleeping. According to Amanda Gibby Peters, the founder of Simple Shui, cover the mirrors of your room and notice if your sleep is improving and if you begin to sleep soundly while covering them you must prefer to replace them or place them in a position not facing your bed.

Mirrors should be carefully used in bedrooms as based in Feng Shui. As it is believed that mirrors are capable of activating the energy in the room. However, the disturbance of sleep because of the placing of the mirror in the room does not work for all. Some sleep soundly even when mirrors are placed in the bedroom as some people appreciate it to keep a long mirror in the closet door. If you want to do that make sure that your closet is well-organised as mirrors can double what they project.

The difference in the positioning of the mirror in the bedroom exists too. If you are placing the mirror in the room and your bed is in the commanding position, then you can easily see the whole while lying in the bed as it will be providing the widest view of the room.

This will put you in command to control your life. Your bed is a way of representing you so this piece of the furniture must be in the commanding position. Feng Shui will affect you greatly if you spend a lot of hours relaxing and sleeping in bed. One belief is that a mirror facing the bed might not be the best choice for you but for your friend it will be a great feeling.

Placement for Good Luck

Mirrors are an unavoidable part of Feng Shui. The mirror known for its unique abilities if placed correctly can be used to double the positive energy of an area in which it is placed and multiply its manifolds. Therefore, if you want the placement of good luck in your home you have to learn the mirror placement for good luck to utilise it to the fullest.

It is a million-dollar question whether a mirror can be placed in Kitchen for good luck? Well for most of the cases the answer is no. It is believed that the kitchen of the house usually contains negative Feng Shui energies, that is why it is not advised to have a mirror in the kitchen.

If mirrors are placed in such a way that they are facing the stove it can create imbalance. The reason is that with such placement the fire element on the stove and energy will increase greatly. So by any logic of doubling energy mirrors should be kept away from kitchens.

However, differences in beliefs exist here too. According to some schools, locating the mirror such that you can be a reflection of burners on the stove can increase your wealth. The case is very simple: by doubling the burners the capacity of attracting the wealth will also be doubled but be careful as it should not be very close to flames.

Facing Window

Let’s see how Feng Shui will affect if the mirrors are placed along with the facing window. If the interior of your house is optimistic and position arrows are not there, then a mirror can be placed to reflect a window.

For example, if you have placed a mirror in the window such that your lawn can be seen from outside then it is a great idea as the lush green garden reflects into the living room for the addition of energy. A mirror that is reflecting a stream, river, or water fountain increases prosperity and luck.

Place the mirrors such that they reflect pleasant nature in your home. You may be seeing healthy green plants, trees, and rivers. Trees indicate growth in energy, and the view of mountains enhances the relationship. Moreover, this idea will not be followed if you know that any sort of bad thing is outside of the window because the mirrors that are capable of getting the positive energy inside also can bring the negative energies inside the house.

Facing Stairs

Now the other question that arises is that can you place a mirror at the stairs for decoration? Now it has been known that the right placement of a mirror allows the flow of chi energy in a good way as it can boost prosperity and abundance too. A lot of people like to place mirrors in front of stairs. Is this a good idea? Let’s check this out.

To place the mirror in a way that they are facing stairs is considered bad luck as they are considered to double the unsettling energy of the staircase. While a lot of homes benefit by placing mirrors in the exact place at some mirrors should not be placed and this includes facing the stairs. In Feng, Shui mirrors represent the water element.

Don’t use a mirror at the narrow staircase as according to some beliefs narrow staircase can reduce prosperity and fortune. However, if you like the narrow size of the staircase you can widen it with the use of a larger mirror.

A mirror should not be placed at the bottom of stairs as it can cut off the head or feet when you move up and down. It is said that if a person is reflected in a mirror without a head the self-esteem of the person can be affected. Make sure to place the mirror at the height from where you can fully see your image in the mirror.

Facing Each Other

It is an interesting thing to know what happens if two mirrors are facing each other. It is observed that if two mirrors are placed in front of each other light will bounce from both mirrors continuously and a new image will be formed with different reflections. The image formed in one mirror will be reflected by another mirror and this phenomenon will continue. It will seem that an infinite series of the same image is being reflected over and over again. These reflections will get dimmer and smaller progressively and at last, they will fade off.

In Feng Shui the act of placing double mirrors is discouraged as the back and forth flowing of energy will create disharmony and will be interfering with the peaceful atmosphere. According to superstitions too many reflections of the same energy are not good for the area you have reserved for relaxation or sleep. So it is advised not to keep your chair or bed between two mirrors facing each other if you want to relax.

Above Bed

Mirrors are often termed as the aspirin of Feng Shui because they are utilised in many Feng Shui adjustments, among them one is the placement of a mirror above the bed. In Feng Shui avoid placing the mirror above the bed because the hard and reflective energy that the mirror causes interfere with your ability to sleep well at night.

A mirror can also stir up and disturb the atmosphere of the room. It decreases the feeling of the harbour that you wish to be in your bedroom. In other meaning placing the mirror above the bed has the same effect as if mirrors are placed in front of the window.

For Feng Shui to perform its best move the mirrors out of the room and place them somewhere in your home such as the living room, dining room, and hallway. If you find it difficult to move the mirrors out of the room at least find a way to cover them while you are sleeping.

Over Fireplace

Now the last thing about which the rules of Feng Shui must be discussed is the placement of a mirror over a fireplace. The placing of a mirror over a fireplace sometimes seems to be very beneficial and it can even prove to be the cure to an annoyed sector of your home.

As the mirror represents the water element it can affect the fire energy coming out of a fireplace. A mirror can be used as a remedy for the fireplaces located in inauspicious parts of the home. For instance, if a fireplace is located in the northwest and west sectors of home they are believed to create disharmony.

The north and northwest sectors are ruled by metal elements but the fireplace produces the fire element as according to the destructive cycle of elements fire can destroy the metal. The mirror can be used to extinguish the fire element by using its water element.

According to some schools of Feng Shui, it is an auspicious act to place a mirror above the fireplace as its water element will balance the fire element thus it will be introducing good energy into the room.
